Maybe it's not a matter of one option or the other, but just knowing when it's time to take a day to bunker down. I was just thinking the other day that when E and F were younger, sometimes I'd say "OK this is gonna have to be a parenting day" and I'd have to stay home and put out fires all day.... I haven't done that in awhile and maybe I should.
Another thought I had while reading this is that cortisol is addicting and so sometimes the thought of being strung out and rushing around with kids in public with elevated heart rate is more appealing to me than doing dull parenting work at home. Maybe ask if you are really leaving home for them or for you. If the answer is you, that's equally fine and warranted, but good to acknowledge all the same.
Wow that's insightful. I do think for me it's usually that I want to go out because I think it's fun.
